For AI to properly address healthcare challenges for countries around the globe, it is crucial to make sure that current models (whether on a local or global scale) are developed using a diverse and representative dataset for their intended users. To prevent the rapid development and massive benefits of AI-based systems from widening existing health disparities, it is imperative that more countries become involved in major AI initiatives and can contribute to the identification of patient groups that are underrepresented in datasets and may be subject to the effects of AI bias.
